ABOUT SHAVARSH ARTIN'S PHOTO AWARDS

  Shavarsh Artin Palabikjan was born on May 12, 1948 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Because of his unique ways to capture the dynamism of the moments and to transcribe those while using artistic styles he is truly the master of contemporary Bulgarian photojournalism today.

  The Bulgarian readers perhaps still remember his unique images published in 'Otechestvo' magazine, as well as 'Continent' and 'Demokratzia' newspapers and many other publications in Bulgaria and abroad. To his last day Shavarsh has worked for the political magazine 'Leader'.

  Shavarsh style left a legacy and became a school for many successful photo reporters today, who established a new photography trend in the media, in all major magazines, newspapers and news agency, at home and abroad.

  His death in September 11, 2005, took away from the Bulgarian journalism an extraordinary man and a virtual master in ptotography, who was also a profound friend and a mentor to many young talents. This is why, his colleagues, The Club of the Photojournalists, 'Bulphoto' Agency and all of the people that he mentored have decided to continue his amazing work for discovery and to help professionally new talents in the field of photography. Shavarsh Competition is sole established with the goal to give an opportunity for the young photographers to a greater participation and work in the field of the media world.
